Content: | Lungmen Nuclear Power Plant is currently the largest nuclear power plant project of the Taiwan Power Company. This is by far the most difficult and troublesome project. The project was proposed in 1980, but due to political and anti-nuclear activities, work did not begin until 1999. However, in 2000, Taiwan underwent its first ever political power rotation and the
project was suspended from October 2000 to February 14,2001. Lungmen Nuclear plant was the first to introduce an Advance Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR) outside of Japan and was designed by G.E. As the first ever ABWR, the design and construction of every aspect of the plants such as interface, control system, etc., were extremely problematic and challenging. A large number of tests, such as the nuclear power plant containment structure integrity test (SIT) and containment leakage test (ILRT), were conducted in order to prove the design correctness for this ABWR. In this talk, the speaker will discuss how the nuclear team of the Taiwan power company overcame difficulties and conducted tests to support the design and the construction of the Lungmen nuclear plant. The talk will also discuss the current situation of Lungmen nuclear plants because the plant was determined to restore due to a recent political issue by Taiwan government. Lungmen is not a turn-key project, so a specific plan for the project, such as system handover plan (from construction to pre-operation ), start up administration, etc., should be established and will be introduced in this talk. |
